Well, we left Edmonton around 8:30 and rode through cool 45 degree weather most of the way. A few bits of rain here and there, but we made good time. When we pulled in to Kamloops, it looked good to keep going so we decided to continue on to Hope. Well, between Kamloops and Merrit, we had a snow squal. The roads were wet, but good traction, but we had slush accumulating on the windshield for awhile. eventuallly it was just plain old rain, and then after Merrit, it cleared up completely. Unfortunately, after the summit, the rain returned for the ride into Hope. But all in all, we both felt it was a great ride today. 1,000km in 10.5 hrs moving time. So we are wondering, if 1,000 miles in 24 hrs is an iron butt, then what is 1,000km in 10 hrs?
We really quite enjoyed from Valemont down to Kamloops. Some entertaining curves in the road there. After Valemont, the scenery just got greener and greener, and some trees in full colorful bloom too. Along the way we spotted one coyote, the usual herds of sheep and elk at Jasper, one live deer, one dead one, a black bear, and what appeared to be a black cat just sitting on the shoulder , perhaps abandoned, on the cocahala.
And I have to send out a special thanks to Ted Brooks. My seat was just as comfortable after ten hours as it was at the beginning of the day. What a difference it makes to have that gel pad inside the seat.
